A group of professors from Maharishi University of Management (MUM) were invited to the largest university in Mongolia for a three-day seminar.
The MUM faculty were central to the seminar, which looked at human development and the possibility of conducting research on Transcendental Meditation.
Please see Part I of this article: Mongolia: MUM faculty invited to conference on Consciousness-Based Education, sustainability
One member of the delegation explained how the event came about.
Ten months ago, Dr Bill Goldstein, Dean of Global Expansion at MUM, visited Mongolia while he was in Asia on university business with China. In Mongolia he met with leaders from half a dozen universities and colleges, one of which was Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST).
The university has a total of 40,000 students; Dr Goldstein visited the Computer Science and Management School, which has 3,000 students.
It was this visit by Dr Goldstein that inspired a reciprocal visit by MUST's professors to Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, in June 2012.
While part of a delegation to the United States, two professors from the Mongolian university visited the Maharishi University of Management campus for several days. The professors, the Deputy Director for Research and Innovation and the Head of the Business Administration department, were impressed with MUM's Consciousness-Based Education programme.
Upon their return to Mongolia, both learned Transcendental Meditation and created a conference exploring Transcendental Meditation, Consciousness-Based Education, and human development.
The MUST professors then invited a delegation of faculty from Maharishi University of Management, including Dr Fred Travis, an expert in brain research; Lonnie Gamble, curriculum director of the Sustainable Living programme; and Jim Bagnola, MUM alumnus and visiting Management faculty.
The subject of the conference was Innovation in Human Development, with particular interest in establishing a management research laboratory to conduct research on Transcendental Meditation.
Global Good News will continue to feature the Maharishi University of Management delegation's visit to Mongolia, which also included Dr Bevan Morris, President.
