Professors Gurdy Leete and Stuart Tanner of Maharishi University of Management's Media and Communications department spoke about the state-of-the-art equipment their students enjoy.
They spoke in conjunction with the announcement of the launch of MUM's new master's programme in filmmaking.
Professor Tanner is an award-winning film producer, writer, and director who has worked for the BBC, National Geographic, and the Discovery Channel. He listed some of the equipment that students in his department are taught and encouraged to use.
The master's programme has a green screen studio, a sound stage, and an array of video cameras like the Sony Z1, the Sony V1, and a Red One camera.
Of the Red One camera, Professor Tanner said, 'It is a professional camera that is capable of producing cinema-standard quality film. . . . It is a video camera of such standard that it produces images that rival film.'
He added that quite a few current films were shot using the Red One camera, including the recently released The Hobbit.
'So you can see it is a very high-standard camera that is available for the students to use at the MA level. Indeed, students have already used this camera to produce a full-length feature film which was screened in [Iowa] just a month ago.'
Professor Leete emphasized that in addition to access to high-quality equipment, students in Media and Communications are in high demand.
'The world of media is going through an historic and unprecedented change. All the mass media are essentially going through a process of ''death and rebirth'' into a new digital format. . . . The world of film and video is becoming much more of an important part of the fabric of almost every part of commerce, education, industry, and daily life. There are immense new opportunities opening up for people who want to launch a new career in the world of video.'
