Maharishi University of Management has been very focused in the past few months on the development of its new master plan, said Jonathan Lipman, AIA, an expert in Maharishi Vastu architecture.

An effective master plan is essential to creating a campus with a unified feel. A good master plan creates a harmonious interplay of buildings, open space, programming, security, and layout.

Mr Lipman added that this is the perfect time for a new master plan at Maharishi University of Management.

'The university has been expanding rapidly again in recent years and, with 1,300 students, is very close to capacity and expects that it will have a dire need for new classroom buildings and dormitories in the very near future.'

The development of the master plan is described on the Maharishi University of Management website. The article explains that at an enrolment of 1,300 students, approximately 1,000 students will likely be living on campus. 'Clearly there will be a need for both new student housing as well as classroom/office space in the coming five years.'

Mr Lipman remarked that this is a 'very comprehensive and very beautifully executed master plan for the university, taken to a much greater level of detail than we have ever done before'.

The online article adds that 'we are thinking of how to best use the space on campus to accommodate our growing enrollment.'

Maharishi Vastu architecture will of course play a major role in the new campus design, but 'we not only want to build new Vastu buildings, but structure a campus that embodies in its overall design, its roads, bicycle paths, sidewalks, gardens, open spaces, and community spaces, the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda (Vastu, or Vedic architecture) as well as the most current principles and practices of sustainability.'

The website concludes, 'As the campus becomes more beautiful and coherent it will also . . . facilitate the growth of enrollment. Thus the master plan is needed to both facilitate and accommodate a growing student population.'
