The Serbian Organic Foundation, established to promote Maharishi Vedic Agriculture, has become the premier producer and distributor of organic foods for Serbia, and is gaining momentum with the launch of a programme to offer practical guidelines for all aspects of organic food production. As organic farming is relatively unknown to most Serbian farmers, guidelines featuring step-by-step information are being produced. Up to 20,000 copies of the first guide will soon be printed, providing instructions for growing more than 40 varieties of organic vegetable. Similar guides will be made available for growing fruit, cultivating medicinal and aromatic plants in both mountains and valleys, and producing organic honey.

Organizers are following up on contacts made at BioFach, the world's largest organic fair recently held in Germany, where the Serbian Organic Foundation presented its first product for the international market—organic vinegar. This is produced in the mountains of eastern Serbia and will soon be distributed in Germany.

Increasing sales of their organic vegetables at Belgrade's green market, have led to the aspiration to fund all activities of the Global Country of World Peace in Serbia entirely from sales of organic food. The Serbian Organic Foundation recently presented its plans to introduce organic agriculture region by region throughout the country. The Foundation will also be offering a ten-day international summer-school in organic agriculture, principally for Balkan countries (but open to everyone). Branko Cicic, the co-National Director of the Global Country of World Peace in Serbia, sees this as a significant first step towards a Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture University.

Dr Cicic also announced that a well-known celebrity and advocate of healthy natural foods had organized the first organic green market in Belgrade, in conjunction with city and municipal authorities. She invited the Serbian Organic Foundation to take charge of the entire market, which is scheduled to open in May in the presence of government leaders and the media.
