India and United Kingdom: Effects of rising world consciousness seen in agriculture and health
by Global Good News staff writer

In India, the states of Sikkim and Kerala are starting to convert many hectares of land to organic agriculture over the next five and ten years respectively. In the United Kingdom, anti-smoking legislation has led to a 'swift and significant' drop in the number of heart attacks, saving the Health Service millions of pounds.
These developments were featured in a recent report on Maharishi Global Family Chat by Dr Peter Swan, host of the daily news webcast. They are among many signs of rising consciousness around the world, he said, due to the large numbers of Yogic Flyers who are creating coherence in world consciousness.
For example, in Sikkim, farms are planned to be entirely organic by 2015. The state has been slowing the use of chemical fertilizer since 2003 and has currently converted 6,000 of its 70,000 hectares to organic. As well as improving the quality of the soil, the environment, and the health of the population, the state hopes to boost tourism in the country as a result of this conversion.
The state of Kerala aims to convert all agriculture to organic methods over the next ten years. In the first phase, 30,000 hectares will be converted.
'What a beautiful indication of increasing coherence, harmony, and purity in world consciousness,' commented Dr Swan, who is also Minister of Communication for the Global Country of World Peace, '—particularly by the large group of Vedic Pandits in the Brahmasthan (auspicious central point) of India,' he said.
Giving another example, from the field of health, Dr Swan read from a Reuters London report, which stated that the ban on smoking in public places in the United Kingdom 'led to a swift and significant drop in the number of heart attacks, saving the Health Service £8.4 million in the first year, scientists said. . . .'
The Reuters article quoted a health expert about the unmistakable results: ' ''The message is clear: investment in prevention pays,'' said Bobby Jackson, the Director of the London Health Observatory, which collects and spreads public health information.'
'This is the exact approach that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has been advocating for so many years: prevention, prevention, prevention,' commented Dr Swan. 'Here is the research which shows that just banning smoking has saved so many lives and so much money—just through prevention.'
* Dr Swan was speaking on the 11 June Maharishi Global Family Chat, which is broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
