Little did the Stoltzfus family know 20 years ago, when Dutch Meadows Farms became organic, that they would be riding the wave of the future. Berks County [Pennsylvania] s an organic hot spot that's growing, fueled by consumers seeking healthy food.

Pennsylvania's main certifying organization, Pennsylvania Certified Organic, has seen a significant increase in certified operations in the past couple of years. Pennsylvania is No. 1 in farm direct-to-consumer sales.
Pennsylvania is among the top four states for certified organic operations, according to National Organic Program data. Almost 1,700 certifications have been issued in Pennsylvania since the start of the National Organics Program in 2002.
