On 5 November 2018 Green Bay Press Gazette (Wisconsin) reported: While Registered Apprenticeship has been thriving in Wisconsin for over 100 years, and informal apprenticeships are common for diversified organic vegetable farmers, it was not until recently that the two came together. Born out of the need for skilled workers, the Organic Vegetable Farm Manager Registered Apprenticeship program was established in August of this year and is the first of its kind in the United States. 'We heard from aspiring and experienced growers that there was a need for a comprehensive training program,' said Julie Dawson, Assistant Professor in the Department of Horticulture for University of Wisconsin-Madison and the State Extension Specialist for Urban and Regional Food Systems.
