Maharishi advises new regime to have second currency

28 May 2004
In his weekly address to the Indian media, His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, hailed the ascendancy of Dr. Manmohan to the post of Prime Minister, and suggested the new regime allow the provinces to have their own currency in order to achieve self-dependence.
Ram Mudra (currency) could also exist in some of the provinces alongside the rupee, he said. In an unprecedented gesture, the founder of the worldwide Transcendental Meditation (TM) movement invited the Manmohan government to learn how to alleviate poverty 'without looking to the West for dollars'.
Suggesting that Ram Mudra in India is natural, Maharishi said Indian provinces could have the option of having the second currency. If dollars borrowed from other nations could be used in poverty alleviation programs with disastrous results, why can't Ram Mudra have the chance to offer its life nourishing impact on the people of India, he asked?
Maharishi said that he could have a debate on the issue with Dr. Manmohan Singh, known for his expertise on economic matters, privately or publicly, so that something that can free India from the west could be worked out. He said that Ram Mudra is the concept of Ramraj, the greatest system of governance, which is guided by the Laws of Nature.
Extolling the great Sikh tradition, Maharishi said that the founder of the Sikh religion, Guru Nanak, had asked all his followers to recite hymns of Guru Granth Sahib (religious scripture of Sikhs). The new Prime Minister of India, who is also a Sikh, should allow the people of India to pray at work places, so that Dharma could take precedence over everything.
India has been devastated by secularism 'which is being practiced by those who had driven people out of Europe', he alerted. The founder of the Global Country of World Peace also exhorted the Indian government to close the embassies of the US and UK, saying that their presence has caused bloodshed in every part of the world.
Maharishi also repeated his resolve to establish 3000 Peace Palaces in the most prominent cities of the world to create positivity and coherence and to raise collective consciousness to Unity Consciousness.
