A short time ago an Icelandic Hollywood film producer, who has been practising Transcendental Meditation for many years, contacted Dr David Lynch, encouraging him to do something about the economic plight of Iceland. Iceland was one of the first countries to suffer an economic collapse in the current worldwide financial crisis.

Dr Lynch, along with the Icelandic film producer, and Raja Tom Stanley, Raja of Iceland for the Global Country of World Peace, recently met with a prominent government leader in Iceland. Their goal was to create integration in national consciousness and assist Iceland out of its economic turmoil by introducing Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation Programme.

Upon landing in Reykjavik, they went directly to the meeting. Scheduled to be only 20 to 30 minutes long, it lasted for one and a half hours. The leader 'was very impressed with the documentation of the Transcendental Meditation Programme,' Raja Stanley said, 'and very interested to see these positive results in their country. He gave us tremendous encouragement, saying there was no reason not to go ahead quickly, and that it could do nothing but good.'

The following morning, they held a well-attended press conference, followed by a public meeting. The auditorium, which seats 800, was full, and hundreds more people gathered in the lobby outside, making the total attendance between 1,500 to 1,600. This is about one half of one percent of the population of Iceland—one out of every 200 people in the country came to this lecture.

'The event was absolutely fantastic,' Raja Stanley said. 'As well as Dr Lynch and the Icelandic Hollywood producer, there was a nationally well-known poet, a long-time meditator, who talked about her experience of Transcendental Meditation. In a series of brilliant questions, the audience asked about meditation, enlightenment, how to contact one's own Self, and how to unfold the creativity of one's own consciousness from within.'

Later in the day the presenters lectured to a special group of young leaders in society who call themselves the 'Ministry of Ideas'. 'This group of people focusses on ideas that may not be in the mainstream and that have been overlooked by conventional thinkers,' Raja Stanley said. 'These people were very encouraged by our message.'

Global Good News will feature a second article on Iceland in the coming days.
