Honouring and enriching traditional cultures of the world through Maharishi's programmes: Dr Chris Crowell

Addressing the Global Guru Purnima Assembly in MERU, Holland on 27 July, Dr Chris Crowell, Minister of Religion and Culture for the Global Country of World Peace, reflected on the success of the World Federation of Traditional Kings, which Maharishi Mahesh Yogi founded 10 years ago, offering programmes to support the unique cultures of traditional peoples throughout the world.*

After founding the Federation, Maharishi quickly brought together traditional leaders from throughout the world to participate together in a global conference. In the years since, over 300 traditional rulers from 35 different countries have been inspired to participate in this organization. 'Maharishi's thought was to honour, support, and fulfil the tradition of administration embedded in each culture—in the richness of Natural Law and heritage of each land,' explained Dr Crowell.

Maharishi's programmes for all 12 areas of society have been introduced through the World Federation of Traditional Kings, continued Dr Crowell, especially in the areas of sustainable agriculture and economic development. Through helping to develop the nations in this way, support can then be gained for Vastu (Vedic architecture) homes, Consciousness-Based Education schools, and Maharishi Ayur-Veda health clinics. 'It is a great joy to see Maharishi Invincibility Schools coming up in these traditional areas, such as African countries,' he added.

Dr Crowell added that an important goal of the Federation will be to mitigate the damage of diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, which are striking traditional communities with great intensity.

He expressed hopes that the children of these communities will develop their full creativity through practice of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in schools, and will enjoy a life of peace, affluence, and all possibilities.
