Coherence-creating conference of advanced meditators convenes in Brussels 'to support unity and stability in Europe' during EU summit

6 March 2013
Another special conference of advanced Transcendental Meditation practitioners is in progress in Brussels, Belgium, coinciding with the current summit of European Union leaders.
During these days of the European Union summit, explained Dr Stijn van den Bosch, director of the Transcendental Meditation programme in Belgium, all the heads of state of the EU nations gather in Brussels. The conference of advanced meditators has been convened especially at this important time 'to support unity and stability in Europe', he said.
A World Peace Assembly (WPA) is a conference of people who practise Transcendental Meditation and its advanced programmes. World Peace Assemblies are held regularly in many countries around the world. In addition to knowledge meetings, a significant part of the restful and rejuvenating conference schedule, designed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, consists of twice-daily sessions of extended group meditation practice.
Large groups practising these peace-creating technologies of consciousness have been shown repeatedly in scientific research studies published in respected peer-reviewed journals, to reduce social stress and create a measurable influence of coherence and harmony in the surroundings.
This special conference draws participants from all over Europe. The Transcendental Meditation organization in Brussels, which hosts the main meetings and group meditations, is only about 400 metres from where the main EU summit meetings are being held, Dr van den Bosch said, so he expects that they will have a good impact. 'In fact, it was quite well noticed the last times that we organized these WPAs.'
This is not the first time such a conference has been held in Brussels during an EU summit. The programme was launched in June last year, and the results have been 'remarkable', he said.
'At that time there was a very important EU summit meeting about the financial crisis. Although expectations for a good outcome were very low for this summit, thanks to our WPA at that time, heads of state already came to an agreement on the first day of the summit.'
A news article after the summit commented, 'After 20 failed EU summits, here is finally one that has some good results.'
'We ourselves were quite happily surprised at the incredible outcome'—the effect of their group meditations, Dr van den Bosch said.
Another EU summit was held in mid-December 2012, and again the Transcendental Meditation centre organized a concurrent conference with a substantial number of participants, 'enlivening coherence and unity from the deepest level,' he said.
'Again we had a very strong effect, and after the summit, the President of the EU Council was quoted in the newspapers speaking about an ''historic agreement'' which he felt might very well be the start of solving the financial crisis in Europe.'
Press articles at that time also highlighted 'the remarkable coherence between the leaders of the different nations during that summit—especially the leaders of the larger nations,' Dr van den Bosch said. 'In the past, maybe some of the larger nations would try to push their ideas up front, but this time the press noted that there had been a remarkable coherence, a remarkable cordiality and collaboration between the different nations.'
To create the maximum positive effect, organizers have again invited Transcendental Meditation practitioners from all over Europe to participate. Recent conferences have drawn people from Italy, Portugal, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, and Belgium.
The conference continues through Sunday, 17 March.
