President signs long-awaited Fiji constitution into law

On 6 September 2013 Australia Network News reported: Fiji's President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has given his assent to a new constitution, saying its signing marks a new beginning for the country. The new constitution will come into law immediately and replaces the charter scrapped by the military-backed regime in 2009. Ratu Epeli says the new constitution paves the way for next year's elections to be free and fair.
