The Monthly Aspectarian, a Chicago magazine, published an interview with Dr Nancy Lonsdorf, medical director of The Raj Maharishi Vedic Health Center, on her new book 'The Ageless Woman—Natural Health and Beauty After Forty With Maharishi Ayurveda'. Dr Lonsdorf explained why she chose this time-tested, holistic approach over a western medical approach to healing. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of health.

Lonsdorf told reporter Guy Spiro that her interest in mind/body medicine began in high school when she learned the Transcendental Meditation Technique. At that time she had dreams of becoming a doctor, but her own experience of meditation confirmed the direction she would take within that profession.

Lonsdorf also discussed the prevention-oriented approach of Maharishi Ayurveda. She said that her goal as a doctor was to help people maintain and create balance before disease arose. She explained that 'A pre-disease condition, if not corrected, could go on over time to become a disease of the immune system, or ulcers in the stomach, or arthritis, or something like that. But if you can correct that imbalance through changing the diet and applying some oils or some herbs, and doing some cleansing of the body, you can turn back that imbalance. You can create balance again—good health without ever having to get disease.'

She went on to emphasize that even with a disease condition, Ayurveda has its own approaches. 'Its aim is to get at the underlying imbalance and really try to create health again, rather than just interfering with the mechanism of disease which is what western drugs tend to do. That approach is, well, you've got inflammation, so let's give a drug that breaks the cycle of inflammation. But if you stop the drug, you've got inflammation again.'

Lonsdorf's book, 'The Ageless Woman' exposes the limitations of western medicine's approach to women's health and provides an alternative approach, Maharishi Ayurveda. Lonsdorf said she wanted to share the knowledge 'found through my clinical experience. And, of course, it has all of these thousands of years of history behind it and a growing body of scientific research validating the approaches of Ayurvedic herbs and diet and lifestyle and meditation and all those things—the power of Ayurveda for really keeping you healthy. I wanted to be a voice for that because I felt that that was where the real power lies and that women weren't hearing enough about it'.

Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total Knowledge based— programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
