On 6 May 2005 Earthtimes.com reported: An ancient Indian method of self-development, Transcendental Meditation (TM), has proven to be most effective in reducing stress and extending life span by creating a fourth state of consciousness that allows increased healing. The article noted that the TM technique, developed thousands of years ago by sages, was brought to the West by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who also established Maharishi University of Management to provide an holistic approach to education by integrating Vedic studies. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of health.

Dr Robert Schneider, the author of a study published in the 2 May issue of the American Journal of Cardiology and a faculty member of Maharishi University of Management, spoke extensively to reporter Sunil Vyas. Schneider said that while there were other techniques available for reducing blood pressure without the use of drugs, none could be said to extend life as effectively as TM does.

Dr Schneider explained how TM could help those with high blood pressure live longer. He explained that during TM one develops a state of restful alertness, actually a distinct fourth state of consciousness.

The experience not only gives deep rest on a physical level, but also produces a state of heightened alertness in which one's brain functions more efficiently.

Schneider explained that the fourth state of consciousness, distinct from waking, sleeping and dreaming, is referred to as Transcendental Consciousness. During this experience the thinking process becomes more and more refined until 'awareness transcends (rises above) all mental activity', and becomes aware simply of its own awareness. Schneider said that this unique state of physiological functioning allows the body's own self-repair mechanisms to be activated. Hence the result of extended life span.

'Subjects in the study had not only lower blood pressure compared to people in other groups, but also reduced the risk of dying from any cause by 23 per cent. Most notably, the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease was reduced by 30 per cent and from cancer by 49 per cent.'

Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
