On 10 June 2005 Times Online reported: Times (UK) writer Mary Ann Sieghart recalled a time 18 years ago when her inability to relax on vacation caused her husband to comment, 'You really need to learn to meditate.' A few months later she learned the Transcendental Meditation Technique (TM). In the article she shares her positive experiences with TM and noted with pleasure the recent study, published in The American Journal of Cardiology, showing that TM 'may even help us to live longer'. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of health.

Sieghard said that since she began her practice of the TM technique, she has 'found it easier to take pleasure in the moment, to inhabit the present, rather than constantly scanning backwards and planning forwards'. She observed that she had found an increased sense of calm and beautifully described the moments of serenity that occured during meditation: '...it feels as if you have nudged open a door into a more serene world. These moments are both nourishing to the spirit—like a gulp of cold water on a hot day—and uplifting. They make you feel great.'

Sieghart went on to talk about the physical benefits of TM. In addition to acknowledged beneftis such as decreased blood pressure and reduced stress, the new study indicates that practising TM can extend lifespan. Of 202 seniors with elevated blood pressure, those who learned the mental technique showed a 23 per cent reduction in death in death from all causes, a 30 per cent reduction in deaths from cardiovascular diseases, and a 49 per cent reduction in death from cancer, compared with the control group.

Sieghart ended her article by observing, 'So that proves it. Meditating is good for your body, good for your brain, and good for your soul.'

Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
