Transcendental Meditation may relieve high blood pressure
Heart Center Online Translate This Article
11 June 2005
On 11 June 2005 Heart Center Online reported:
Transcendental Meditation has made history as the first non-drug health treatment to reduce blood pressure and simultaneously lengthen lifespan. Dr Robert Schneider, of the Maharishi University of Management in Iowa, added that the current study shows that 'You can live longer with a mind-body intervention.'
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
Transcendental Meditation is a technique for calming the body and mind, to allow individuals to enter a state of 'restful alertness', in which the body is awake but the mind is not engaged in conscious thought. It is a method of 'waking up the body's own self-repair mechanisms', Schneider said. He added that the 'integrated holistic' Transcendental Meditation technique does not have any harmful side effects.
Dr Schneider is the director of the Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention, funded by the National Institutes of Health's National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
Over 200 participants with pre-hypertension or mild hypertension were evaluated in the study, with the average age of 72 years. They were either assigned to a group practising Transcendental Meditation, or to various control groups practising other relaxation techniques.
Overall, men and women who practised Transcendental Meditation not only had lower blood pressures than those in the other groups, but were also 23 per cent less likely to die from any cause, Schneider and his team report. In particular, they were 30 per cent less likely to die from cardiovascular disease and 49 per cent less likely to die from cancer.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
