Faculty, staff, and students at the University have been learning the principles of the Maharishi Self-Pulse(sm) assessment this semester in an effort to make all of campus healthier and more self-sufficient in preventive healthcare.

According to Paul Morehead, associate chairman of the Department of Physiology and Health who is coordinating all classes, University founder His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has emphasized the value of the Maharishi Self-Pulse program, and the University is working toward teaching it to everyone on campus.

'Self-Pulse diagnosis allows faculty, staff, and students to determine the basic level of balance and imbalance in the physiology and psychology, and to guide them in choices for food, spices, herbs, behavior, and exercise,' Dr. Morehead said.

This technique has been revived by Maharishi and is the most ancient and natural means of finding the level of balance or imbalance in the mind and body. There are over three trillion cells in the body and millions of chemical reactions in every cell every second. Dr. Morehead described the body as just a mass of vibrating intelligence.

He added that by taking the pulse, one enlivens the connection between mind and body, consciousness and matter, thereby enlivening the intelligence at the basis of every function in the body. Moreover, taking the pulse helps detect imbalance early, before it manifests as disease.

First-year students learned the technique during their Science of Creative Intelligence® course in August at the same time faculty trained in it during their faculty development seminar. Staff instruction began in November. Continuing students will be taught during their Forest Academy next spring.

Each first-year student will now take his or her pulse twice a day in class as well as receive a lesson each block. 'The first-year ladies are a lively group and we had a good time—they are very bright,' said Liis Mattik, first-year curriculum coordinator. Ms. Mattik taught 19 first-year women and plans to be involved in teaching more ladies on campus in the future.

Dr. Morehead recommends everyone learn the complete Maharishi Self-Pulse course, which will be available in Block 6. This course will also be open to Town Super Radiance, who can apply through Admissions at (641) 472-1110.

'It's very blissful. People just light up when they discover the next level of inner intelligence,' Dr. Morehead said.
