ABC 7 Medical: ADHD Meditation
by Kathy Fowler

6 March 2006
On 6 March 2006 ABC 7 News reported:
A new study, led by US educator Sarina Grosswald, shows that the Transcendental Meditation Programme is helpful for children with ADHD. The TM Technique has been implemented in several US schools as a possible treatment for the disorder, and the results are promising.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
Ms Grosswald said that she found 'dramatic reductions in stress, anxiety, and depression' in the students with ADHD who practised the Transcendental Meditation Technique. The article also reported significant improvements in 'organization, memory, and strategizing skills'.
Ms Grosswald explained that the Transcendental Meditation Technique increases blood flow to the brain, which is significant because one of the problems associated with ADHD is reduced blood flow in that area of the physiology.
This new approach is appreciated by parents who are concerned about the increasingly dire warnings associated with many ADHD medications, including an 'increased risk of sudden death and serious cardiovascular problems'.
It is also appreciated by the students themselves, who practise the Transcendental Meditation Technique twice a day for ten minutes each time. The article provided some of their comments:
Will: 'It's amazing how easy it is and yet it does so much for you.'
Alejandro: 'It felt really refreshing, like really cleansing and I felt really relaxed.'
Dr William Stixrud, of the GW University School of Medicine, recommends that the Transcendental Meditation Technique be implemented in all schools. He says the practice is easy and simple and that: 'It allows you to experience very profound levels of relaxation while you're wide awake.'
The article reports that research outside the arena of ADHD has shown that the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Technique can 'lower blood pressure and even raise IQ'.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
