A medical research study measuring the effects of the Transcendental Meditation Programme on bipolar disorder is currently underway in Washington, DC, USA.

Dr Robert Roth, National Director of Expansion for the Global Country of World Peace in the United States, reported on 10 February 2009 that the pilot study is being carried out at the National Institute of Mental Health by Norman Rosenthal, MD, a top researcher in the field of bipolar disorder. The study is being supervised by Sarina J. Grosswald, EdD, a Transcendental Meditation Teacher and George Washington University-trained cognitive learning specialist, who has extensive experience in studying the effects of TM on emotional and behavioural disorders.

'So far, the study has shown very promising results for bipolar—a disease which affects six to eight million Americans,' commented Dr Roth. 'The increased brainwave coherence and reduction of stress caused by Transcendental Meditation practice have helped to neutralize the damaging effects of this disorder.'
