WASHINGTON (AP) - The University of Iowa and Maharishi University will receive funding from the National Institutes of Health to conduct biomedical research.

Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, who chairs the Appropriations subcommittee that funds National Institutes of Health research, announced the $2.69 million in funding for the universities on Monday.

According to Harkin, the funds will keep Iowa on the cutting-edge of medical research.

The funds going to Iowa is part of the $10.4 billion secured for medical research across the United States in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
