Root cause of individual health problems addressed through Transcendental Meditation: Women's health expert

Nancy Lonsdorf, MD, author, educator and women's health specialist, has been in medical practice for 22 years and seen over 10,000 patients. In that time her number one recommendation for almost every patient has been to learn the Transcendental Meditation Programme.
In an interview featured on the Transcendental Meditation Programme website, Dr Lonsdorf said that as a physician she has to address the root cause of an individual's health problem.
She pointed out that there is currently an epidemic of chronic disease in this nation. 'What's behind it,' she said, 'is the wrong behaviours—and what's behind the wrong behaviour, the wrong diet, not enough exercise, is stress. People get overwhelmed.'
In her practice she has found that when people practise Transcendental Meditation, this stress starts to melt away. People 'become more calm in themselves and they spontaneously start to make better choices in their lifestyle,' she said.
Transcendental Meditation has been shown to reduce health care costs, and to lower blood pressure which is preventative of heart attacks.
'If a person has a heart attack, it means many thousands of dollars in a hospital,' Dr Lonsdorf said. 'One major health event prevented', she said, is worth the investment in learning Transcendental Meditation 10 or 20 times over.
Research studies also show that people who practise Transcendental Meditation become more productive at work, and get along better with co-workers; they're less stressed and more efficient. 'If people are healthier, they are clearer in their minds. They're going to be more creative and deal with stress and the challenges of work better,' Dr Lonsdorf said.
'Their health improves and that means more productivity for the company.'
