Aromatics have been used for religious, medicinal, and cosmetic purposes for thousands of years in diverse cultures and countries. Now, with the increasing awareness of the side effects of allopathic medicine, aromatherapy is becoming one of the fastest growing complementary medicines today.

VedAromas are purest, highest quality essential oils, and as an aspect of Maharishi Vedic Medicine they offer the ancient wisdom of one of the most natural systems of promoting holistic psychological and physical health and well-being.

A course to train VedAroma consultants is to be held this coming May, announced Dr Rosie Geelvink, Head of the Department of Aromatherapy at Maharishi College of Perfect Health in MERU, Holland.

Dr Geelvink discussed VedAromas in terms of the history and modern application of essential oils for health and beauty.

'It has been recorded in the Vedic Literature [that] they have been used in the ancient Vedic culture of India,' she said, adding that they were also used 'in China, in Egypt, and in Babylon—and then went through the Roman and Greek civilizations up to the Middle Ages'.

After that, the knowledge was lost for some time, and allopathic medicine became predominant. Now, as concern over the harmful side-effects of allopathic medicine is growing, aromatherapy is increasingly coming to the foreground.

'Aromatherapy is one of the fastest growing complementary medicines today. More and more doctors are becoming aware of the effects of the oils—that they can even replace allopathic medicine like tranquillizers or even antibiotics,' Dr Geelvink explained.

'This is a special effect of the essential oils that they are so very relaxing, that they are so effective against psychosomatic [and other] diseases and give us peace of mind,' she concluded.

In the coming days Global Good News will feature the continuation of Dr Geelvink's talk in which she presents the benefits of essential oils discussed in the ancient Vedic Literature of India.
