Twenty-five years of success in Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care: Dr Robert Schneider

Dr Robert Schneider* recently presented a synopsis of the progress and achievements in the United States in the field of Maharishi Ayur-Veda natural health care from 1984 to the present. This presentation was also made recently to the Board of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) of the Government of India, as part of the Board's initiative to spread knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine outside of India.

Speaking on Maharishi Global Family Chat,** Dr Schneider listed the following achievements in Maharishi Ayur-Veda, which were included in his presentation to AYUSH:

∙ Establishment of Maharishi Ayur-Veda in the US in 1984.

∙ Inclusion of preventive, diagnostic, and treatment approaches, and the inclusion of all 40 aspects of Vedic Literature .

∙ Establishment of the first Maharishi Ayur-Veda Clinic in 1984, offering multi-modality treatment approaches geared towards consciousness, behaviour, Vedic sound, and environment.

∙ Training over 1,000 doctors, and conducting over 50,000 patient care visits at Maharishi Ayur-Veda clinics.

∙ Approval of continuing medical education courses, and publishing of five popular books on Maharishi Ayur-Veda.

∙ Gaining significant grant support for research in Maharishi Ayur-Veda from the National Institutes of Health in the US. Conducting over 700 research studies at over 200 universities and institutions worldwide, many of which were published in leading scientific journals.

∙ Currently the Maharishi Ayur-Veda Association of America is co-sponsoring a training programme for medical doctors with the Scripps Research Institute, with over 50 physicians enrolled in the first course.

Dr Schneider also brought out unique angles of Maharishi Ayur-Veda that have very powerful implications in a medical context: Maharishi Ayur-Veda includes the development of consciousness, through Transcendental Meditation and the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, as a treatment approach. More than 2 million people in the US have learned Transcendental Meditation, including over 100,000 students in recent years.

Dr Schneider then described the unprecedented incorporation of all aspects of Maharishi Ayur-Veda into the educational programme at Maharishi University of Management (MUM), Fairfield, Iowa, USA. These include Transcendental Meditation and its advanced programmes, Vastu (Maharishi Vedic) architecture, diet, daily routine, and exercise. Now the world's first truly integrated joint degree programme in western medicine and Ayurveda is being offered at the university.

Dr Schneider concluded by saying that the inner healing intelligence of the physiology is the basis of healing from within, and that the shift to this understanding, which is currently taking place, represents a 180-degree turnabout for modern medicine.
