On 16 September 2011 WEAU.com reported:
Veterans learned about a technique called Transcendental Meditation, which is growing in popularity and praise for its effectiveness as a treatment for post traumatic stress (PTS).
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
A few days ago, Jerry Yellin spoke to veterans in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA, about returning home from World War II as a decorated fighter pilot and being unable to escape the horrors of war he had experienced.
In those days 'there was no known condition for post-traumatic stress disorder', now called PTS.
'I just didn't know who I was or what I was for 30 years, until 1975 when I learned to meditate. I learned Transcendental Meditation,' Jerry explained. Many vets have now learned the technique, and have had significant reductions in PTS along with needing fewer medications and therapy, he said.
'It's a unique rest. It's not like a nap. It's a state of restful alertness, a fourth major state of consciousness, and the restful alertness allows really deep rooted fatigue and stress and anxiety to naturally release from the nervous system,' explained Billie Jean Billman, who works with Operation Warrior Wellness, a program that aims to help veterans find relief from PTS through the Transcendental Meditation program.
