Fragrances: Instant mood lifters which work directly with the brain

According to Dr Atmane Kouider, one of the developers of the new VedAroma line of organic essential oils and perfumes, high-quality essential oils have a direct and immediate influence on the physiology.

'Perfumes have an effect on the whole physiology,' Dr Kouider said. 'Since they are inhaled, they go to the brain and they trigger several reactions in the body, and they produce a feeling of relaxation, of upliftment, of well-being.'

One reason essential oils and perfumes can produce an immediate shift in mood, Dr Kouider explained, is because 'the brain barrier amazingly doesn't stop all the molecules which come from aromas.'

The VedAroma website explains:

'Smelling takes place through approximately ten million olfactory nerve cells of the mucous membrane at the root of our nose. This mucous membrane is the only place in the body where the central nervous system is open and in direct contact with the outer world. Its cells are brain cells. Their eighty million fine hair cells gather an unimaginably large amount of information with each breath that we take.'

Because of their direct link with the brain, fragrances can affect us on a subconscious level, before we are even aware of perceiving them. These fragrances can instantly influence emotions, heart rate, and breath rate.

According to Dr Kouider, one thing that sets the VedAroma line apart from other oils and perfumes is that VedAroma is all natural.

While synthetic perfumes try to isolate a few molecules to mimic the fragrance, natural perfumes contain the totality of the essence. With natural perfumes, the whole plant is distilled, including all its hundreds of molecules. For example, there are 500 different types of molecules in a rose. But to make synthetic rose fragrance, only two or three molecules would be used.

Dr Kouider remarked, 'It is strange to say that something natural should become unusual,' but that is the case today. This is one reason why he believes VedAroma essential oils and perfumes will find quick success in the global marketplace.
