Those who practise Transcendental Meditation, or TM for short, daily 'claim they feel calmer, have more energy and feel healthier, both mentally and physically, than they used to. It's not a religion, they say, just a practice that reduces anxiety and improves well-being,' writes Kristin Tillotson in today's Star Tribune. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of Defence.

'Now the U.S. military—not known for embracing the mystical—has taken note,' the StarTribune article continues. 'The Department of Veterans Affairs has invested $5 million in a dozen trial programs studying TM's effects on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including one at the Minneapolis VA (Veteran's Administration) Health Care System.'

In the StarTribune article, veterans in the Minneapolis–St Paul, Minnesota area describe benefits they have found from practising the technique.

Like many Iraq veterans, Fernando A. Franco had trouble sleeping through the night. 'It really affected not only my work, but my relationship with my wife and kids,' he said. The David Lynch Foundation's Operation Warrior Wellness initiative motivated him to learn Transcendental Meditation six months ago. Now he sleeps well.

The article notes opinions of people who are skeptical about Transcendental Meditation, but mainly focuses on the positive experiences of veterans who practise the technique regularly.

'There is a moment when you go into a void, an emptiness, and you feel a part of the universe,' Franco said.

'. . . . When you come back from war, where you've learned to shut down your emotions, you have to relearn how to be with your family. [TM] helps you not only to reconnect with yourself, but other people. I've also noticed I'm able to concentrate better.'
