28 November 2012
A busy five days of engagements in London last month saw renowned psychiatrist and mental health researcher Dr Norman Rosenthal address members of the medical community, the SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) Association, health enthusiasts, business leaders, spiritual seekers, and psychotherapists. He also gave two media interviews.
Dr Rosenthal is the author of Transcendence: Healing and Transformation through Transcendental Meditation and Winter Blues – Everything you need to know to beat Seasonal Affective Disorder, which have been recently updated and re-released in the UK.
Please see Part I of this article: 'Dr Norman Rosenthal brings Transcendental Meditation to new audiences during London visit'.
Beginning on Saturday 6 October at Guy's Hospital, Dr Rosenthal addressed an audience of psychiatrists, general practitioners, hospital consultants and nurses. The meeting was chaired by Dr Elizabeth Young, a GP and long-term advocate of the clinical benefits of Transcendental Meditation.
Dr Rosenthal urged his listeners to be open to the use of new and promising forms of therapy alongside conventional mainstream ones, an approach that has proved so successful in his own career. This was the way he had discovered that light could be as effective a therapy for SAD as any drug, and without the debilitating side effects.
He then told them how he had witnessed the transformation of his patients when they learned Transcendental Meditation: it had not just reduced the swings of bipolar disorder, it had brought genuine happiness; it had not just managed the symptoms of post-traumatic stress, it had brought about true and lasting recovery.
As he does in his best-selling book about Transcendental Meditation, Dr Rosenthal supplemented his own observations with selected case studies and extensive research findings. The audience responded with numerous questions, and many also took advantage of the opportunity to obtain copies of Dr Rosenthal's books.
