Dr Norman Rosenthal addresses members of the SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) Association in London, October 2012 Following an address to medical professionals at Guy's Hospital in London on the morning of 6 October, Norman E Rosenthal, MD, went on to meet in the afternoon with 70 members of the SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) Association. This was the first day of the renowned psychiatrist, researcher, and bestselling author's recent speaking tour in London and Dublin.
Dr Rosenthal achieved international recognition for identifying Seasonal Affective Disorder and pioneering its treatment with light therapy. More recently he has suggested that, in addition to its many other benefits, Transcendental Meditation can also help in the treatment of SAD. Two of his books, Transcendence: Healing and Transformation through Transcendental Meditation and Winter Blues – Everything you need to know to beat Seasonal Affective Disorder, have been recently updated and re-released in the UK.
The afternoon session with Dr Rosenthal was held 'appropriately in a room flooded with natural light at Regent's College, in the delightful setting of Regent's Park', commented one of the organizers of the tour. Already familiar with the use of light therapy for SAD, Association members were now introduced to the benefits of Transcendental Meditation.
Joining the presentation via live video conference was a man from Dublin who said that a lifetime of suffering from the symptoms of SAD had stopped overnight when he learned Transcendental Meditation.
Such was the interest in the technique that more people took home copies of Transcendence than of Winter Blues.
