Dr Alarik and Dr Cynthia Arenander, experts in brain functioning and consciousness, visited Peru recently and were featured guests on a popular television show in that country.

Dr Alarik Arenander is a UCLA-trained neuroscientist and Director of Iowa's Brain Research Institute. His lifelong research focus is brain development and human potential, including the relationship between the brain and consciousness, and the role of the environment and experience on the development of human potential and well-being.

The Arenanders visited Lima, Peru to lead a health and neurology training course.

While in the capital city, they were invited to a major television station to be interviewed by 'Dr TV', a practising surgeon who has his own health-based television programme. They explained that Dr TV is a franchise of the popular American television programme Dr Oz.

The Arenanders reported that they found Dr TV very open, understanding, and interested in neuroscience, consciousness, and meditation. They spoke to him and his audience about the practice of Transcendental Meditation, how it works, and its effect on brain functioning and coherence.

They also mentioned the hundreds of students in Peru who practise Transcendental Meditation daily as part of schoolwide initiatives.

During the television show, Dr Alarik Arenander brought a young woman up on the stage. She had been meditating for only a year, but Dr Arenander selected her for a live demonstration of brain wave coherence during the technique. He hooked her up to an EEG machine and asked her to begin Transcendental Meditation. Everyone in the audience watched as she meditated.

'She had some of the highest coherence that Dr Arenander had ever recorded,' commented a Transcendental Meditation teacher in Latin America. The contrast between the level of coherence before starting meditation and during the practice was remarkably high.
