Dr. John Hagelin invited to present at Brazil TEDx conference

Dr. John Hagelin spoke at a TEDxWomen conference series last November in Washington, D.C., USA, and has now been invited to speak at a TEDx event in Brazil in April.

Dr. Hagelin is the chair of the physics department at Maharishi University of Management and honorary chair of the Board of Trustees. He teaches the popular course Foundations of Physics and Consciousness every year at MUM. He is also national director of the Transcendental Meditation program.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences dedicated to spreading groundbreaking ideas. TEDx was created in the spirit of TED's mission to give communities and organizations the opportunity to stimulate dialogue at the local level. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.

Dr. Hagelin's November talk covered the research on the Transcendental Meditation program and its effects on health, education, and post-traumatic stress.

Some 15,000 people watched the event live via webcast in locations organized by TEDx across the world. ''There was a tremendous coherent focus on what I had to say,'' Dr. Hagelin said. ''My talk really stood out because it focused on solutions and not just on the problems.''

Since the conference last November, several TEDx organizers have learned the Transcendental Meditation technique.

TEDx conferences have a strong focus on scientific evidence. Dr. Hagelin said that TEDx is the best venue to spread the word about the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation technique. Normally speakers present only once at TED, but it seemed to be acknowledged that this is ''an important message'' and he anticipated further invitations might be forthcoming.

Dr. Hagelin was initially invited to speak by organizers of TEDx who heard him at an education summit in New York City organized by the David Lynch Foundation.
