Healthy, Happy Mother and Baby course: Expert faculty present time-tested knowledge to supplement modern medicine

The new three-part course, 'Healthy, Happy Mother and Baby'—part of the Maharishi Ayurveda Family Health Series—represents an advanced paradigm in mother and baby health care: simple, traditional, time-tested knowledge practically presented to supplement modern medicine. The course has drawn on a wide range of expertise among both traditional and modern health professionals to offer the time-tested knowledge of Maharishi Ayurveda health care in the context of mother and baby care. Part One of the course is being held this week at MERU in the Netherlands.

Over the last four years experienced pediatricians, obstetricians, gynecologists, nurses from several countries, as well as aromatherapists and specialists in other very relevant aspects of traditional Vedic Science and Technology—all with knowledge of Ayurveda and other aspects of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's holistic, integrative approach to health—have worked extensively with a number of the most traditional and well-known Ayurvedic physicians from India, those whose family traditions in Ayurveda date back hundreds, if not thousands of years. Together they have been developing a very practical package of knowledge that can be offered globally to address the very timely need in every country.

Videotaped lectures have been made especially for this course by renowned Indian Vaidyas, the very experienced Maharishi Ayurveda physicians.

COURSE LEADERS:

Two very eminent doctors are leading the course, both of whom have been instrumental in developing it—Dr Charlotte Bech and Dr Karin Pirc.

Charlotte Bech, M.D., Denmark
Dr Bech worked for several years in the area of hematology in the referral hospital Rigshospitalet in Denmark. She also worked as a medical doctor in the field of obstetrics in Tennessee, USA. She has specialized in Maharishi Ayurveda and Vedic Medicine since 1983, and is currently running a private clinic in Copenhagen, practising Maharishi Ayurveda, with emphasis on prevention and development of consciousness. She is a well-regarded columnist in several national magazines, writing on Maharishi Ayurveda, and is the author of several books based on Maharishi Ayurveda.

Dr Bech is Vice President of the European Ayurveda Medical Association (EURAMA). She has taught at the University of Copenhagen Medical School for several years, and is currently teaching advanced Ayurveda at the University of Copenhagen.

Dr. phil. Karin Pirc, Germany
In 1985 Dr Pirc opened the first German Maharishi Ayurveda Health Centre in Schledehausen near Osnabrück and was the head physician until 1993, when she opened and became Medical Director of the Maharishi Ayurveda Health and Seminar Centre in Bad Ems, Germany, which is accredited as a state recognized private hospital. Dr Pirc holds regular advanced training courses in Maharishi Ayurveda and gives seminars to other doctors. She also regularly lectures on Maharishi Ayurveda to medical professionals and the general public.

In September 2006, Dr Pirc became the first European to be awarded the prestigious Indian 'Global Hakim Ajmal Khan Award' for exceptional achievements in the field of Ayurveda. Dr Aslam Javed, General Secretary of the Hakim Ajmal Khan Memorial Society (HAKMS), New Delhi, expressed his profound admiration for Dr Pirc's knowledge and dedication to Ayurveda and said that her 'life's work has contributed significantly to the global expansion of Ayurveda'. In February 2013 Dr Pirc was awarded 'The Dhanvantari Lifetime Award in the Field of Ayurveda', from the Ayurveda Mission, Rajkot, Gujarat, India.

The course organizers acknowledge other specialists, doctors, and health professionals who have contributed greatly to the creation of this course, and who will be featured in a future article.
