Netherlands: Raising coherence in collective consciousness supports long-range solutions to electromagnetic radiation, experts say

The growing trend to avoid unhealthy effects of electromagnetic radiation—along with new research to develop more healthy technologies—illustrates principles of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Absolute Theory of Defence,* said one of three experts discussing this field recently at Maharishi European Research University (MERU) in Holland.

In highlighting both potential health risks and practical solutions to limit exposure, he said, we want to disallow exposure to anything that would weaken us or disturb the environment. We must be certain that our families and our countries are protected from outside negative effects.

Continuing in this theme, it was suggested that sometimes what seems to be an impossible problem can be resolved through the 'group dynamics of consciousness': In areas where large groups are practising Maharishi's technologies of consciousness—Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques including Yogic Flying—the Maharishi Effect of coherence in collective consciousness is created for the whole population. This promotes positive, evolutionary trends in society, and one result is that over time toxic devices will be replaced by more life-supporting technologies.

Another expert cited several examples of evolutionary trends in the development of electronic technology over the past decades. These developments have paralleled the rise of coherence through the growing popularity of Maharishi's programmes around the world.

One example comes from the television industry. The glass cathode-ray picture tube (CRT) was widely used and enjoyed around the world for decades, even though it had radiation side-effects. In the last few years, with technological advances this type of toxic television has become obsolete and is no longer made.

In the evolution of wireless technology, research is investigating infrared technology, a totally benign form of energy. More research is needed, but some systems have been developed. One system uses a home light bulb to modulate infrared so it can be used for high-speed data transmission. Infrared is found everywhere, for example it is the technology currently used in television remotes.

Another example is the energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL). This story turns out to be a short one, the expert said, pointing out a number of flaws in the technology that have come to light with their increasing use. The bulbs emit more electromagnetic radiation than the old incandescent tungsten bulbs; they also contain small amounts of mercury that transfer into the air when the lights are on, creating a low level of toxicity in the environment. Moreover, due to the mercury content these bulbs require special attention to be disposed of properly.

Legislation in many areas mandates that the old tungsten bulbs be discontinued. However, scientists have quickly become aware that CFLs don't save much energy because of the waste products generated in both production and disposal. Already light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs that are more energy efficient and do not contain mercury have been developed and have begun to replace the compact fluorescent bulb.

One speaker cautioned that although there are many developments in the right direction in this field, researchers must be alert not to simply be exchanging one problem for another, as was the case with the invention of the compact fluorescent bulb.

At MERU, steps have been taken to shield electric cables to minimize the electrostatic field that comes from wiring. Maharishi Vastu** architecture (also known as Maharishi Sthapatya Veda) is starting to recommend that all new construction have shielded wiring.

The three experts agreed that solutions are possible if engineers think together and if the collective consciousness is sufficiently coherent to support these more life-supporting trends.

** Vastu refers to Vedic architecture—the complete knowledge of design and building in accord with natural law—brought to light from the Vedic literature by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and known as Maharishi Sthapatya Veda.
