Engaging the media to help promote the growth of poison-free farming in Serbia appealed to Branko Cicic, president of the Serbian Organic Foundation.

Dr Cicic, who is also director of the Transcendental Meditation programme in Serbia, had found that once a station aired a programme on Maharishi Ayur-Veda natural health care or Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture, they might not be interested in doing another one for a couple of months.

Wanting to give the general public an opportunity to learn about Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes more often, he set out to create a weekly television show, principally on organic agriculture.

To get started he procured a camera and learned how to use it, and also learned film editing. In time a pilot episode to introduce the show, called 'Organic Serbia' (Organska Srbija), was produced. About a year later, during an interview on organic agriculture with a representative from a major Serbian television station, Dr Cicic asked if they would like to view the pilot, to see if it would be suitable for public broadcast.

The station director gave his approval and from the first week, it was one of the most viewed shows on City Television of Belgrade. Now it shows weekly on 15 stations, and the number is growing. Recently offers were received from satellite stations in Australia and New Zealand to broadcast the show.

Each episode has five sections, covering 'my farm', 'organic without boundaries', 'BioBalkan', 'green market', and 'ecology'. Interviews with people in the market who buy organic products bring out how they started to understand they should not feed poisons to their children. The producers go to an organic farm and record a chat with a farmer about his experiences with the land or production. In the ecology section a doctor talks about the poisonous additives in conventionally grown food.

The most recent addition to the show is a section on Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture.

Dr Cicic recently commented that farmers are learning about organic farming practices by word of mouth, and from the television broadcasts.

Recently the largest organic dairy in Europe, with 2,000 cows, converted to organic farming practices, including the cultivation of their own organic feed for the herd.

A delightful video has also been produced in the Serbian language about organic farming in Serbia, highlighting the land and its produce.
