From 12-15 March 2018, 4,000 delegates participated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the historic 1st International Congress of Complementary and Integrative Medicine in Public Health, in which the 3rd International Ayurveda Congress formed a key part.

The Ministry of Health of Brazil, while promoting the 1st International Congress of Complementary and Integrative Medicine in Public Health, had the honour to host and support the 3rd International Ayurveda Congress in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The congresses were intended to constitute forums for international discussion, for integration and exchange of experiences between professionals and managers of the various integrative practices, in Brazil and in other countries. The objective was to broaden the debate about the use and propagation of these practices in the National Health Systems, to deepen the knowledge and to discuss the advances of the incorporations of the integrative and complementary practices.

The 1st International Congress of Complementary and Integrative Medicine in Public Health marked the collaboration of important organizations: the Ministry of Health and the Chamber of Deputies, through the Joint Parliamentary Fronts of Integrative Practices in Health and Education. It also received support from the All India Ayurveda Congress, the International Academy of Ayurveda, the International Maharishi AyurVeda Foundation (IMAVF), and the Fundación Maharishi de Latino America.

The Congress was inaugurated in the presence of Brazil's Health Minister (Ricardo Barros), the Health Minister of Curacao, Vice-Minister of Health from Nicaragua, three Brazilian Congressmen (Saraiva Felipe, Giovani Cherini and Alex Canziani), the Director of Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and WHO, the President of the co-organizers Dr. Rainer Picha (IMAVF), and Padmabhushan Vaidya Devendra Triguna (AIAC) and many more dignitaries.

This Congress made it possible to deepen the knowledge and to discuss the progress of the ICPH incorporations in the international and national scenarios, allowing the sharing of experiences regarding their implementation and management by the countries that already have them in their official health systems. In the four days of the event a wide variety of information was disseminated and shared knowledge through lectures, workshops and round tables, experiences, spaces of care in integrative and complementary practices.

The Ministry of Health believed that this event would be successful and would allow advances in the field of a world society that recognizes the Integrative and Complementary Practices and their practitioners, guaranteeing safety, efficacy, effectiveness and valuing the culture of traditional peoples.
