Dr Alarik Arenander*, Director of the Brain Research Institute at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, and his wife Dr Cynthia Arenander, recently reported on their six-week tour of India from early September through late October. They visited eight cities, making presentations to the great intellects, academics, and opinion-makers in India about Maharishi's Vedic Science and total brain development. The presentations included live brainwave demonstrations showing increased coherence of brainwave activity through the practice of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation Technique.

Speaking on the Maharishi Global Family Chat they reported on the tremendous interest from the press and the extensive media coverage they received.

Dr Arenander said there was so much press they couldn't keep track of it all. Every day another five, ten, or fifteen articles came out, he said. All the many articles reported the greatness of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and how valuable his technique is for all sectors of society.

The presentations and press conferences highlighted various benefits of the programme. A press conference in Bhopal resulted in a well-placed article in The Hindustan Times, entitled 'Meditation support crucial in treating ADHD'** Dr Arenander said that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a major concern in the nation and the article generated a significant, positive response.

Another press conference, attended by many reporters, highlighted leadership, and featured a large banner which read: 'Leadership development through integration of brain functioning'.

The media especially appreciated the live brainwave demonstrations, and many articles featured photos of the demonstrations and graphs of brainwave coherence resulting from the practice of Transcendental Meditation.

Often it was Dr Cynthia Arenander who practised Transcendental Meditation during the demonstrations—and even after overnight travel by train, and in front of huge audiences, with cameras flashing, she always displayed 'phenomenal brainwaves . . . massive global coherence', Dr Alarik Arenander said. This emphasized the natural, effortless simplicity of the technique, Dr Arenander said.

The fascination for both the press and the audiences, Dr Arenander said, was the brain. They liked the idea that India's greatest resource is its latent brain potential, and they appreciated the scientific verification of Transcendental Meditation as a means to awaken total brain development.

Global Good News will feature the continuation of Dr Arenander's talk in the coming days.
