Volume 6 of Scientific Research on Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme: Collected Papers has been published, highlighting an additional 94 studies. Volume 6 has a very high academic standard, with almost all papers reprinted from scientific journals, or conference proceedings, books, or dissertations.
These papers are organized, as they are in Volumes 1-5, in four sections: physiology, psychology, sociology, and theoretical and review papers.
'There were so many exciting and beautiful studies that are part of this volume, and I wanted to give a brief vision of them,' said Dr Michael Dillbeck, an expert on Transcendental Meditation research, who is one of the editors of Collected Papers Volume 5, and the editor of Volume 6.
Physiology This section discusses 'what goes on during the Transcendental Meditation Programme and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme,' Dr Dillbeck said, presenting a chart showing increased blood flow to the brain during Transcendental Meditation.
This study was conducted at a university in California, USA, and was published in 1996.
'Usually, when we have some kind of mental activity, research has shown that there is increased blood flow in a very specific, tiny area of the brain that is processing that type of activity,' Dr Dillbeck explained. 'But what happens during Transcendental Meditation is that blood flow increases very, very significantly throughout the brain.
'The fact that this increased blood flow takes place widely throughout the brain is unique, and it's one indication of increased functioning of the total brain,' he said.
In the coming days, Global Good News will continue to feature Dr Dillbeck's report highlighting studies from Scientific Research on Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme: Collected Papers, Volume 6.
