Recipients of this award represent the next generation of knowledge leaders, a valuable asset in a country where critical knowledge skills are highly valued.

The mission of the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa is to ensure research excellence that espouses a sustainable environment, not only for the benefit of the present generation, but also for future generations of South Africans.

Dr Weltman was recently featured on the Mail & Guardian's 2012 list of '200 Young South Africans'—future leaders of their country who are 'doing extraordinary things' in their fields. Other recent awards noted among her achievements include the 2009 National Women in Science award for best emerging young researcher, and the Royal Society of South Africa's Meiring Naudé medal for young scientists in 2011.

Dr Weltman also spoke at this year's conference of the Alliance of Women Scientists and Scholars for a Better World, held in June at MERU, Netherlands. At the conference she presented on 'Fundamental Physics at the Low Energy Frontier', discussing her theory explaining the mysterious force causing the universe to accelerate.

Dr Weltman is a frequent visitor to MERU (Maharishi European Research University), and seeks to unite and uplift women scientists and scholars of the world in an alliance that will be a powerful collective voice and an instrument of implementation for all that is good.
