Netherlands: Vastu Builder Seminar studies new manual - How to Build a Peace Palace

At a recent seven-day seminar in the Netherlands on Maharishi Vastu* architecture, participants studied the first print edition of the newly published manual How to Build a Peace Palace.
The manual is based on the experience of building Europe's first Vastu Maharishi Peace Palace, in Erfurt near the centre of Germany—in record time and within budget. It was written and introduced at the seminar by Dr Lila Maria Hartmann-Stein, who with her husband, Dr Eckart Stein, oversaw the construction of the Erfurt Peace Palace, completed last October; they are now its directors.
The course, called the Vastu Builder Seminar, hosted 17 participants from 12 countries in residence at Maharishi European Research University (MERU), with many more in other locations connected by webinar.

The Erfurt Peace Palace is part of an initiative to build Maharishi Peace Palaces in the 3,000 largest cities of the world, offering knowledge and practical programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi for peace and enlightenment—for a healthy, happy, more creative, more fulfilling and successful life through the Transcendental Meditation programme.
The manual was designed as a resource for anyone who wants to build a Maharishi Peace Palace in their area. It gives an overview of what is involved in such a project, drawn from the development of the Erfurt project, the first in the world built according to the MERU Master Builder System. This system was developed by Dr Christian Schweizer, a leading Maharishi Vastu architect who was one of three experts conducting the Vastu Builder Seminar in MERU.
How to Build a Peace Palace is divided into three main sections. The first deals with the planning phase, and describes different Maharishi Peace Palace plans and designs. The specific plan for a particular Peace Palace is determined in large part by the configuration of the available land according to Maharishi Vastu architecture principles. Also included in the first phase is practical information on building permits, and obtaining financial backing for the project.
The second section of the manual covers construction, giving general guidelines including how to implement the MERU Master Builder System. One interesting feature of this system is that the traditional Vedic ornamentation, which gives an elegant appearance to the building's exterior, is cast as part of the wall element rather than being attached afterwards. This affords greater stability and durability to the ornamentation. After construction is completed a celebration is held to inaugurate the building.
The final section of the manual consists of several appendices, an invaluable resource of information and practical tips that have been collected over years of Maharishi Vastu construction. The appendices include items such as specific all natural building materials that are available, and how to achieve precision in construction, among others.
An essential and unusual aspect of the manual is its virtual tour of the construction phase of the Erfurt Maharishi Peace Palace. The tour is a compilation of video clips taken during construction presenting important details that would not be included in a manual or book.

The manual's format follows that of another manual published last year: Vastu City Planning, now in its fourth edition and also available in Kindle and iBook versions.
* Vastu refers to Vedic architecture—the complete knowledge of design and building in accord with natural law—brought to light from the Vedic literature by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and known as Sthapatya Veda.
