When last we heard from Pranav Chhalliyil, a sophomore at Maharishi School* in Fairfield, Iowa, USA in May, he had just competed in the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles and won third place in the Microbiology category. Not one to rest on his laurels, Pranav moved on to another prestigious global competition in June, the 2017 International BioGENEius Challenge, at the BIO International Convention—which attracts 16,000 leaders in the field who come together for one week of intensive networking to discover new opportunities and promising partnerships.
At the 2017 International BioGENEius Challenge, Pranav won the very intense, 60-second ''fast pitch'' format, GENE Pool Competition. ''I was glad that I could answer questions asked by the experts in the field,'' he said. ''Most of them were celebrities in the field and very elite people!''
Another aspect of the BioGENEius experience where Pranav earned accolades was the 2017 Global Healthcare Challenge, which focuses on the medical applications for each participant's research. Pranav was the National Winner of the 2017 Global Healthcare Challenge, as well as an International Finalist.
Of several young scientists participating in the 2017 Iowa State Science and Technology Fair, Pranav was the one selected to represent Iowa in the 2017 International BioGENEius Challenge. He was also the youngest finalist in the BioGENEius Challenge and at the Bio International Convention.
