The Guam rail was extinct in the wild for nearly 40 years. Now it's back. 19 December 2019 - Almost four decades after completely disappearing from the wild, a bird that had survived only in captivity now roams freely on two tropical islands. The Guam rail's native home is a remote, 212-square-mile island in the Pacific Ocean, half way between Australia and Japan. Only one bird -- the California condor -- has previously taken that crucial step back from the brink. (more)
Guam schools see dramatic decline in bullying with student-led programmes 27 August 2014 - Schools in Guam say there has been a massive decline in the number of reported bullying cases in the past four years. They say the number of cases reported has dropped by more than 80 per cent since 2010, from 930 to about 160 cases, after the introduction of student-led anti-bullying programmes. Ordot Chalan Pago Elementary School principal Dr Rebecca Perez says the most effective measure has been the Class Council programme, which involves weekly meetings directed by students. (more)
