Funds raised for 500 Vedic scholars, expected late spring

Some 500 Vedic scholars are expected to arrive from India by late spring and take up residence in new facilities in Maharishi Vedic City, thanks to the generous contributions of people from around the world.

The Vedic scholars, aged 18-21, will help foster peace in the world through their recitation of all branches of the Vedic Literature and their Maharish Yagya(SM) performances, as well as their group practice of the Transcendental Meditation; and TM-Sidhi programs. They have been studying the Vedic Literature since age 10.

There may be opportunities for people to hear the Vedic recitations and to witness the Vedic performances, said Maureen Wynne of Maharishi Vedic City. The Vedic scholars will also offer Maharishi Yagya performances for individuals. On Vedic holidays the Vedic scholars will contribute to the festive atmosphere by taking part in processions.

Ms. Wynne said that over $5 million was raised, with 1,600 people contributing from 48 states, Washington, D.C., and 12 foreign countries. 'Everybody contributed in many different ways, selling artwork and other things, calling friends, and making donations themselves,' she said.

This sincere and enthusiastic effort inspired three donors to come forward at the end and help achieve the goal by pledging the remaining $1.7 million. 'Many people contributed in the last few days, calling from all over the country.'

She said it will take about two months to install and prepare the premanufactured buildings that will house the Vedic scholars, but that work must wait until the the ground unfreezes.

In addition to Vedic performances for peace, the Vedic scholars may also do performances for the growth of plants, thereby supporting the Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture(SM) enterprise in Maharishi Vedic City.

The donated funds will cover the first two years of their residence at the Maharishi Vedic City campus. Ongoing funding will come from the continuing contributions of donors as well as contributions from those who receive Vedic performances or enjoy the Vedic recitations.

In addition, a goal of Maharishi Vedic City Organic Farms is to generate enough revenue to help support the Vedic scholars. The next goal is to raise additional funding to increase the group to 1331 students.

Professor John Hagelin is currently meeting with billionaires; and other well known individuals such as film director David Lynch are also raising funds. A new documentary film by Leigh Badgley, titled 'Legacy of Peace,' will also be used to inspire support and will be available soon to those who want to spread the word about this opportunity.

'If someone has found financial success, what better thing to do than to leave a legacy of peace for the whole human race,' Ms. Wynne said.
