On 18 November 2005 China View reported: At the urging of Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe, representatives of many political factions came together in a political dialogue aimed at calming the turbulence in the west African country. The President asked factions to 'find a fit method to settle the particular situation that Togo has experienced in past years'. Global Good News service views this news as a sign of rising positivity in the fields of world peace and government, documenting the growth of life-supporting, evolutionary trends.

The article said that President Faure Gnassingbe also called on refugees to return to Togo, emphasizing that 'all the people have the responsibility to unite and to promote peace and development in the country'.

It was estimated that some 40,000 Togolese fled to neighbouring Benin and Ghana to avoid the conflict that erupted after last February's elections following the death of President Gnassingbe Eyadema, who ruled the country for 38 years.
