On 4 April 2006 The Sudan Tribune reported: The ruling political party of Eritrea, the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), has offered its co-operation to the Sudanese peace process. The offer is the latest of several moves to improve relations between the two countries since they resumed communications in October 2005. Global Good News service views this news as a sign of rising positivity in the field of world peace, documenting the growth of life-supporting, evolutionary trends.

Mr Abdellah Jabir, Head of Organizational Affairs of the PFDJ, stated that 'Eritrea as a nation has toiled persistently for the reaching of a comprehensive political solution in the Sudan; it is ready as always to extend its constructive assistance in the slowly progressing Sudanese peace process.' The leader also urged the Sudanese government and its opposition to 'put aside their differences and work together in a spirit of responsibility' ... 'for the sake of the Sudanese people realizing that peace is the cornerstone for the existence and development of any nation'.

Since 2005, Eritrea has been trying to erase ten years of hostility with Sudan. Improvement was seen in February when Sudanese First Vice-President Salva Kiir Mayardit visited Eritrea for the second time since his appointment, for a meeting with the Eritrean President, Isayas Afewerki.

Though the appointed temporary government of Sudan is favourable to Eritrea's participation in the peace process, several rebel groups would not sanction the involvement. As a result, Eritrea could not participate in peace negotiations held in Libya in February. The rejection generated spiteful retorts on the part of the spurned country.

The PFDJ's current offer is viewed as an attempt to put differences to rest once and for all.
