Canadian Press - Feds, northerners sign deal to protect first of proposed conservation areas (11 March 2007) The federal government has signed an agreement to protect 5,800 square kilometres in the Northwest Territories that has historical links to the Dene community of Deline and is home to many wildlife. It will be jointly managed by Parks Canada and the Deline First Nation.

It is one of a series of places identified under a plan to conserve important parts of the northern ecosystem before industrialization of the Arctic impacts them. Larry Innes of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Association said several other sites are in line for final protection under the strategy that totals more than 100,000 square kilometres, an area larger than New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island combined.
