What is expected to power the economy over the short term is a buildup in exports. 'Exports will be on the upward move and will be contributing more and more to Canadian GDP growth . . . .' Wojciech Szadurski, senior economist for Global Insight, said.

Canadian Press - Baird says Canada wants leading role in world climate-change strategy (15 March 2007) Environment Minister John Baird said he wants Canada to play a leading role in international talks on new climate-change measures, before leaving for a summit in Potsdam, Germany, that brings together environment ministers from the G-8 countries as well as Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa. Baird said he would outline the Conservative government's greenhouse-gas policies at the conference. 'Canada is taking significant action in a variety of areas to tackle greenhouse gas emissions,' he said.
