McGuinty says Ontario is interested in joining several American climate change partnerships which include California, New Mexico, and Arizona. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says he welcomes Ontario's interest. He says the science is clear and political leaders everywhere have to work together to combat global warming. New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer adds global warming doesn't recognize international boundaries and he would welcome the chance to work with Ontario to fight climate change.

The Globe and Mail - Green housing project to cut emissions (30 March 2007) A new development in Victoria, Dockside Green, is the first in North America to not only reduce its greenhouse-gas emissions from energy use to zero, but also cut emissions from energy consumed by its neighbours—with a plant that turns wood waste into gas to provide heat and hot water, with energy enough left over to sell to buildings nearby. This will reduce the use of conventional fuels and cut greenhouse-gas emissions by 1,823 tonnes annually. The wood waste plant produces no greenhouse gases; Dockside Green is the first residential project in North America to use this technology. Dockside Green will eventually encompass 26 residential, retail, and office buildings, co-developed by VanCity and Windmill Developments. Dockside Green is recognized 'as state of the art for North America as far as green buildings are concerned,' said Ian Bruce, climate-change specialist at the David Suzuki Foundation.

Canadian Press - Nunavut legislation enforces use of Inuktitut in schools, businesses, offices (30 March 2007) The government of Nunavut has introduced language legislation that would enforce the use of Inuktitut in public places from restaurants to schools to offices. 'What we'd like to do here is protect the Inuit language for the future,' said Louis Tapardjuk, minister of Culture, Language, Education and Youth. 'More than half of Canada's 30,000 Inuit still consider it their mother tongue and it's the language spoken most often at home for 43 per cent of them', the article states, 'but those figures are declining and the young are least likely to be fluent'. The Inuit Language Protection Bill is intended to ensure French, English, and Inuktitut remain on an equal footing by mandating the use of Inuktitut for signs and services. Tapardjuk acknowledges that covers almost everything in Nunavut. The bill also maintains Inuit children have a right to be educated in Inuktitut, despite the shortage of curriculum materials in that language.
