Planning permission granted for Maharishi Peace Palace in Suffolk, England

On a recent Global Family Chat, Raja Peter Warburton, Raja of Great Britain for the Global Country of World Peace, and organizers of the project spoke about the planning permission received for the construction of a Maharishi Peace Palace in Maharishi Garden Village in Rendlesham, Suffolk, England.

Raja Peter said they have 'detailed planning permission to start construction of this building straight away.' Detailed planning instructions for the building had been submitted and 'this is the first time that anyone in the world has achieved full planning consent for this building, not just outline consent or interest, but actually permission to go ahead and start construction,' said Raja Peter.

He then introduced the two who had organized this planning consent: Richard Johnson, National Director for the Global Country of World Peace in England, and John Renwick, a qualified engineer and national Vastu consultant and expert in Maharishi Sthapatya Veda.

Richard Johnson said that the Maharishi Peace Palace 'will be at the heart of Maharishi Garden Village, a new Peace Colony* that has 54 houses and apartments, all built according to the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda.

The design team for the project included John Renwick and artist David Williams, together with architects for the Global Country at MERU in Holland, Dr Christian Schweitzer and Alberto Castano. They all worked closely together to form the design that was presented to the planners.

'Having also worked closely with the planners to prepare designs that fitted into their policies, our application went through all its phases very quickly,' Mr Johnson said. 'We felt that it was a very powerful moment, a very special moment when a sea of hands went up to support this development,' he said.

Mr Johnson said the Maharishi Peace Palace will have a very clear easterly view, and to the northeast of the site there is a lovely copse of trees, which makes it feel very settled and very beautiful.

John Renwick then spoke in more detail about the building, which is in a very beautiful part of Suffolk with open countryside to the north and our own Vastu houses immediately to the east. Traditional wood and natural building materials will be used.

'On the south elevation there are solar panels, rain water recycling, and other ecological features, which have given our building quite an appeal to the planners,' said Mr Renwick.

The building is very spaciously laid out in a symmetrical way with facilities for ladies' and men's group practice of Transcendental Meditation, the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme and Yogic Flying, along with a dining area on the south side, a kitchen, and a Maharishi-Ayur Veda Health Centre.

There are 20 bedrooms each with an en-suite bathroom, and two meeting rooms in the centre; a very spacious Brahma-Sthan [silent, central area of the building] with a gallery around it, which will give the building a great feeling of dignity and height. The building will not feel enclosed, because there are many avenues for east-west light with many windows on the east and west sides.

Mr Renwick said that the building is about a metre taller than the tallest apartment building [in Maharishi Garden Village], so the planners were very pleased that it fits in with the scale of the already-existing buildings. 'Actually our ability to get this planning permission really comes from Richard and the team nurturing good relations with the planners,' said Mr Renwick.

Raja Peter then said it was very wonderful to hear the support that came from the leading planners and the authorities. There were some very interesting observations. 'In order to fit with local planning regulations, the building had to have a pitched roof rather than a flat roof which was the original plan. Somebody on the council observed that there was more space needed for the Yogic Flyers, hence the need for the pitched roof. So there was a very supportive, cordial kind of atmosphere in the Council meeting that gave the approval.'
