Speaking on Maharishi Global Family Chat, Raja Graham de Freitas, Raja of Invincible Trinidad and Tobago for the Global Country of World Peace, recently reported that knowledge of the programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is spreading in his domain, especially within its large Indian community.

In his report, Raja Graham mainly discussed Trinidad, larger of the two islands that make up the country of Trinidad and Tobago. He described Trinidad as an island populated by 1.3 million citizens of diverse backgrounds, with the two largest groups being of African and East Indian origin.

The Global Country of World Peace organization in Trinidad grew out of Maharishi's visit to the island in 1966; in 1972, the International Meditation Society (one of the early organizations teaching Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme) was established there. Since then, dozens of Trinidadians have become Teachers of Transcendental Meditation, and have taught not only in Trinidad, but throughout the Caribbean islands. Dr David Lee Sheng Tin, National Director of Trinidad and Tobago, has carried on the tradition of visiting other islands, helping to enliven the initiatives and programmes of the Global Country of World Peace in several Caribbean nations.

During a recent week-long visit to Trinidad, Raja Graham—along with Dr Lee Sheng Tin—sparked enthusiasm for Maharishi's programmes throughout the nation's Indian community. Dr Lee Sheng Tin reported that Pandits, or Vedic scholars, in the area have shown great enthusiasm for Maharishi's Vedic knowledge, and have expressed their desire for that knowledge to be spread throughout Trinidad. The National Director, as well as other administrators of the Global Country of World Peace in Trinidad, have discussed possible initiatives to broadcast Maharishi's knowledge over the island's Indian radio stations.

Raja Graham went on to report about a meeting with Swami Brahma Deo Upadhyay, a renowned Trinidadian public speaker and educator in the field of Vedic literature. A long-time supporter of Maharishi and his programmes, Swami Brahma Deo has said, 'Maharishi has given the world a rare insight into Vedic knowledge, and has given us the technology for unfolding this knowledge within each of us.' He hopes to aid Raja Graham and Dr Lee Sheng Tin in spreading Maharishi's knowledge throughout the Indian population of Trinidad—and throughout the world.

Raja Graham also reported that there is currently one school in Trinidad where students have been practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme for two years. Also, Dr David Lee Sheng Tin has held recent discussions with school principals throughout the island, especially within the Indian community, who have expressed interest in adopting Transcendental Meditation into their curricula.
