Mayors' conference in Latin America inspires government leaders with practical benefits of Transcendental Meditation: Dr Julio Pereyra

The recent major conference of mayors was 'one of the most important events ever to happen in Latin America, and particularly in Argentina,' commented Dr Julio Pereyra, Mayor of Florencio Varela, Argentina. 'The local government, mayors, and national and local legislatures were all thinking together about how they can work better for all those they represent in their cities.'

Dr Pereyra, who is also Co-President of the Mayors' Association for all Latin America, recently commented on the conference and its continuing effects, speaking on the Maharishi Channel.*

He said that everyone very much enjoyed how the mayors from abroad, Raja Robert Wynne, Mayor of Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa, USA, and Mayor Ed Malloy, mayor of neighbouring Fairfield, explained the very successful implementation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's knowledge of administration in their own cities.

'It was remarkable to hear about the very satisfactory results in the growth of city life, and better services for the populations of those cities,' Dr Pereyra said. 'For me, as the President of the Cities Federation of Argentina, and more importantly as a [practitioner of the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme], it has been an unforgettable experience—to see how the practice of Transcendental Meditation was at the core of the discussions at the summit.'

Raja Jose Luis Alvarez, Raja** of Latin America for the Global Country of World Peace, praised the National Director of Argentina, Dr Germán Martina, and all other leaders of the Global Country of World Peace who have been working for many years to bring Maharishi's knowledge to the whole of Latin America.

'Now they are very concretely realizing a new level of acceptance and participation in the knowledge by those in public administration, and have expressed their deep satisfaction [about this conference],' Raja Luis said. He gave credit for the success of the conference to Dr Martina and Dr Pereyra.

In his concluding remarks about the summit, Dr Pereyra said, 'This is the most important gate through which the practice of Transcendental Meditation has entered Latin America. . . .'

He deeply thanked everyone for their participation, and continued, 'It is very important what we do with what we enjoyed or have learnt as a conclusion of the summit,' he said. 'I am convinced that after the summit the path to enlightenment is much closer in Latin America, and will give the necessary strength to build the Maharishi Tower of Invincibility in Florencio Varela. 'It has been a very great success in presenting [the value of] Transcendental Meditation for city life and city administration.'
