On 23 July—the final day of the Global Mother Divine Organization's* Third International Congress in MERU, Holland—the assembly enjoyed an inspiring series of presentations from delegates representing countries around the world, on their achievements of the last six months.

This series continues with a report about the waves of dynamic activity of GMDO in the USA and Canada, including the new development of programmes to preserve cultural integrity and promote positive trends in American Indian communities.

United States

Incorporated in 2008, GMDO-USA achieved 501(c)(3) tax exempt status in February 2010. The organization is now registered to operate in 33 states as well as the District of Columbia.

The organization is delighted to announce that Dr Vanessa Vidal, who has a long and esteemed history of service in the Global Country of World Peace, has recently been appointed the National Director of GMDO-USA.

In March this year, nine in-residence GMDO courses were held across the United States, including three in the beautiful state of Hawaii.

Nurse Practitioner Margaret Mullins, director of the GMDO-USA Foundation for Total Knowledge Based Health Care, has created a nurses' certificate programme in Maharishi Ayur-Veda and Women's Health that is planned to be offered in the coming months, through a large private nursing school. It is also planned to be available later through Maharishi College of Vedic Medicine.

These courses, which include the Transcendental Meditation Programme, will be offered both for college credit and as continuing education classes. More information about the programme, including how to enrol, will be forthcoming soon.

On two occasions this year, GMDO-USA hosted members of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers in Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa. The distinguished guests took the opportunity to learn the Transcendental Meditation Technique during their visits and returned to their tribes with tremendous appreciation for the programmes. Outreach to the female members of the tribe is ongoing.

A beautiful brochure entitled 'Programs to Preserve Cultural Integrity and Promote Positive Trends in the American Indian Communities' has been completed and is now being distributed. The brochure contains an introduction to GMDO and outlines the various programmes offered to Native American women. It concludes with a summary of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's message to the people of ancient world cultures on how their cultural integrity can be maintained and progressively better expressed without inhibiting growth. GMDO-USA is now enthusiastically planning for a major conference during the first week of October that will feature twelve of the Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers as honoured guests and speakers.

This conference will also feature prominent spokeswomen for the indigenous tribes of Canada.

In conjunction with the lady administrators and faculty members of Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, the MUM Women's Institute has begun to offer programmes geared toward ladies. In the first half of 2010 there were two offerings, one featuring an expert in traditional indigenous dance, and the second an author who has written a book on 30 women who are outstanding leaders in the Yucatan.

Dr Judy Booth continues to conduct an extended course of study of the Bhagavad-Gita, attended weekly via teleconference by 250 ladies from across the United States and Canada. The course features in-depth study of Maharishi's translation and commentary on the Bhagavad-Gita,** exploring its unique contributions to the complete understanding and practical application of this timeless wisdom.

On 29 July, GMDO-USA hosted a luncheon at The Raj Maharishi Ayurveda Health Spa in Maharishi Vedic City, USA, for lady Teachers of the Transcendental Meditation Programme. The luncheon was a beautiful and fruitful event that served as an opportunity for the ladies to enjoy coming together, sharing information and being brought up to date on important GMDO initiatives and programmes in the US and Canada.

In the coming days, Global Good News will report on GMDO achievements in Canada, and continue with GMDO delegates' reports from other countries as well as on other presentations during the Third International Congress.
